January Meeting
The January meeting of the Hooves Paws and Claws 4H club was called to order at 6:08pm. Monique Garret led the pledge and Kaitlyn Miller lead the 4H pledge.
Monique brought a guest speaker, Kayla, to tell the club about her job as a culinary artist. Kayla works at Bush Stadium and got her training through L'Ecole Culinary School in St. Louis. She highly recommends the school to anyone interested in foods. Kayla explained some of the courses she completed to become a chef. Not only did she get to go to Italy through the school, she also learned how to make a lot of different authentic dishes from different countries. While teaching us how to take a plain cheesecake to a fun creation (using chocolate and caramel), it was apparent that she loved her job.
After the demonstration, Felicity and her mom talked about T-shirt sales and club members turned in their order forms. Next, Katie Zelechowski read the minutes from December’s meeting and Kelly Bonk accepted them, followed by a second from Shelby Warren. Kelly Bonk read the treasurer report. Morgan Marshall accepted the report.
The Fundraising Committee chair, Katie Zelechowski then reported that she would look into Pantera’s Pizza for the next fundraiser. If that did not work, she was going to look into other options. Rhiannon Hall and her mother then spoke to the club about possible community service projects for the group to do. After much debate, the club decided to service God’s Little Acre, a horse rescue. February 5th, 2012 was the decided date to check out God’s Little Acre. A group that signed up would go to that, and more members could check it out at a later date. If the club decides to do another community service project, club leaders Kathy and Marcy, proposed that it should be servicing people. Mrs. Bonk suggested a woman she knew that has lost her home in a fire. The club will decide on that at a later meeting.
Lindsey Bonk then reminded the 4Hers about our club’s YMCA lock in. It is scheduled for Saturday February 25, at the Edwardsville YMCA. It is from 8pm-12pm. Lindsey also reminded us to bring signed permission slips to climb on the rock wall at the time of the event.
Kevin Duncan had nothing to report on the recreation committee.
Our club reporter, Rebecca Keasey, reported that she is trying to get our club activities reported in the newspaper. If anyone has pictures of the club they were asked to bring them to the next meeting. At the next meeting, the recreation activity (activity during the meeting) could be scrap booking so that all of the members can participate in making a fantastic scrapbook.
Trevor Neumeister reported that the website is up to date and has new pictures.
Old business
The club raised $1295 in sponsorships this year. A new member, Kairlyn Miller brought in the most sponsorships!
Desert of the months are coming up and Morgan Marshall is scheduled for next month’s dessert. Delaney Phillips is next followed by Trevor Neumeister, Felicity Guttmann, and Cody Custer.
New Business/ Leader’s Report
Project Books were in and each club member should have picked up their books. Project goal sheets were also there to pick up. Each project you are enrolled in should have one of these goal sheets filled out for it. They are due at the next meeting.
Marcy showed the club that last year’s scrapbook had been submitted to a county competition and won. She and Kathy had also earned their Silver Clover awards for being leaders for 5 years! Members were then given receipts to get checks from the county fair for last year’s projects. Then, the members were asked to write a letter to the state, thanking them for 4H so that money can be put into the state’s budget to give us the money for those checks. Also, Marcy told us that we had sold the most paper clovers in the county along with another group. Cody Custer and Trevor Neumeister had participated in that.
Along with this news, Marcy also informed the club that the extension office wants each club to send in information on a club activity for the news articles they send out once a month . In this news paper, there are interesting articles that can be brought up by club members during meetings. Finally, she welcomed anyone to join Horsebowl and Hippology contests every Tuesday, at her house, if they were interested.
The meeting adjourned at 7:46pm. Trevor Neumeister moved for the adjournment, followed by a second by Kevin Duncan.
